Grilled Sockeye Salmon

Grilled Sockeye Salmon

With Salmon, I really wanna just taste the salmon. It may sound weird, but in my opinion salmon’s  flavor doesn’t require much to enhance its d’lusciousness.  Sockeye salmon is a whole other  story. It’s in a class of its own.  I’m in the process of eliminating processed foods and artificial ingredients from my diet as much as I possibly can.  I’m a food researcher who makes every effort to, and takes pride in dissecting all the ingredients before I consume anything packaged. I know folks are probably tired of me reading food labels, but I can’t help it if I’m aware. I wish I had become aware a whole lot sooner.

I have also educated myself on farm raised and wild caught fishes, and have made the decision to choose and feed my family wild caught fishes instead. Farm raised fishes are exactly what they sound like. They are raised on fish farms, by man, in ponds, lakes, etc and fed a diet which may consist of antibiotics, food additives and grains. Farm raised salmon is actually grey in color, however the fish feed/pellets contains canthaxanthin, a food dye,  which is responsible for their salmon hue/color.  Wild caught salmon has astaxanthin NATURALLY and feeds on krill, which feeds on red algae, which is responsible for their NATURAL salmon hue.  With this new found information, I have been eating sockeye salmon and wish I had been doing so sooner.

Besides being educated on the difference between farm raised and wild caught fishes, the taste of sockey salmon is simply amazing. It didn’t need much to enhance its flavor. I marinated the sockeye salmon with herbed oil and thyme, sprinkled it with sea salt and pepper and grilled it off.  It was smooth, buttery and absolutely d’luscious!
