My grill is trying to set me up. No doubt. It wants me to take the cooking outside…everyday. This ain’t nothing but a setup. We all know that I am head over heels in love with food, but do you have any idea, how absolutely d’luscious and divine grilled vegetables are? I enjoy anything prepared on grilled. I will drink grilled water if it will tantalize my taste buds the way grilled vegetables do. I do roast my vegetables in the oven most of the time, you know…it’s quick and easy and hassle free. However I do get into my moods and will fire up the grill to achieve a grand slam flavor….and baby, let me tell you… achieve I did!
Each time I roast vegetables in the oven, I vow that I would never ever stir fry another vegetable on the stove top anymore. The depth of flavor that emanates from these simple vegetables are beyond words. Now Grilled Vegetables is a whole new ball game. When vegetables come in direct contact with a grill, the flavors of the vegetables reaches the highest level of concentration. It doesn’t matter what kind of vegetables. Any vegetable will do. If you do not have a grill…..get one. I really don’t care for the gas grills, simply because the taste just isn’t the same. Whenever I grill, I expect to have that charred flavor that only a grill can deliver. I don’t care for liquid smoke. Nope, don’t want it. All I want is the natural smoky flavor waiting to burst outta all those incredible, healthy, plant based nutrients that we refer to as: vegetables.Grilled Vegetables will have you running around, with your head in the palm of your hands, screaming: OMG! OMG! OMG!
In my opinion, vegetables are closeted until you remove them from their comfort zone and place them on a grill. Yes, vegetables are sheltered. If you have never had grilled vegetables, you may be just as sheltered as any vegetable, that has never been introduced to a grill. Are your vegetables confined to your skillet or oven? Do you even eat vegetables at all? Well you better get those vegetables moving. The onions were my favorite. They were the bomb! Even my 12 year old son D’Angelo, can’t seem to get enough of onions these days. He’s like, “mom I really love onions now.” You should have seen me scraping the bits and pieces from the pan, as if I didn’t know where my next meal was coming from. Those itty bits and piece caramelized so beautifully. Oh my! Talk about mad flavor! I was moaning and groaning, as I picked out all of the onions and place them into my mouth. I just couldn’t get enough! And the tomatoes….OMG! There outta be a law against food tasting this good.
One of my girl friends was visiting and she couldn’t understand what was with all the moaning. She wanted a taste test. I said, “girl it’s just the onions, you want some?” She declined the offer, but when I shared her a plate, it was a whole different story. She devoured it. She murdered it! This particular friend is not the average picky eater, but she doesn’t embrace food the way that I do. If it isn’t a dish that she is accustomed to, she won’t be receptive to it. As I was sharing her a plate, she said, “do you have lettuce and tomato?” She is oh so simple and not adventurous at all. Get the heck out here! Talking bout some lettuce and tomato. Did she not understand or realize the house that she was in? My house! And you come talking bout some “lettuce and tomatoes!” Are your kidding me? Did she not see what I had on the grill? Poor child. I shoulda just shot her a box…but she’s my girl. This girl knows that I am not the standard iceberg lettuce kinda diva any way, so even if I did have lettuce, she would have still looked at me as if I was crazy, because it would not have been an iceberg lettuce. Any, I was about to take her taste buds around the world and she didn’t even know it. I replied, “I have no lettuce and tomato and won’t be making any.” I advised her of all the veggies that were included in this here, totally awesome, grilled vegetable salad. She said (in one of her really nice voices), ” I eat everything but the mushrooms.” So I removed the mushrooms and boy did she have a grand time with it. She even request extras to take home with her.
I’m still stuck at her lettuce and tomato statement. I’ll get over it after a couple of days…maybe weeks…..hmmm…come to my house talking bout some lettuce and tomato…..God give me strength!
