Star Anise and Cinnamon Tea

All along I have loved the aroma and the taste of star anise; and had no inclination whatsoever that it was the main ingredient in the drug Tamiflu which is the drug that is prescribed to treat the swine flu aka H1N1. If I designate these flavorful, licorice tastng, pungent pods specifically for the days that I was feeling under the weather, I would be depriving myself and my body of this awesome tea and its health benefits. I drink and enjoy a hot cup of star anise tea at anytime of the day.

I really enjoy foods from the earth. God created this bountiful garden called the earth with everything that we need to heal ourselves. On any given day, I prefer my earthy medicine as opposed to over the counter or prescribed medications. After reading the side effects on prescribed medications, I must say, I am a bit hesitant to administer them to myself or to anyone.

I love the taste of cinnamon sticks as well. At times I steep it alone. However I find that the combination of the star anise and cinnamon sticks is a match made in heaven.  Both ingredients compliment each other well and also enhances the flavor of the tea. It is soothing and calming.  This is usually one of my go to remedies whenever I need a good night sleep.

I have never had difficulty locating star anise or cinnamon sticks. I usually find them in the Jamaican, Latino and Oriental markets (star anise is a Chinese herb). They aren’t expensive either.  Try adding star anise and cinnamon to your collection of spices and herbs and make your life exceptional!

Star anise and cinnamon sticks

Recipe:
Preparing the tea is very simple. After bringing the water to a boil, turn off the stove and add a few of the star anise and one or two sticks of cinnamon. Allow it to steep for about 5 minutes. The longer it is steeps, the more concentrated the flavor becomes. Pour into your tea cup and sweeten (if desired) with the sweetener of your choice. Enjoy!
