Stewed Snapper with Bok Choy, Yellow Cauliflower, and Broccoli

Stewed Snapper with bok choy, yellow cauliflower and broccoliI had tuna and sockeye salmon on hand, but I wanted SNAPPER!  How did I develop this craving? Where did it come from? I have no idea. I finally made it to the fish market and walked away with six big snappers; three yellow tail and three red snappers. By the time I got home, I was exhausted. Keep in mind, when I grocery shop….I grocery shop….and I ENJOY doing it. So whenever I leave my house, I simply don’t know when to return. I ain’t gonna lie. I get high spending money on grocery, especially produce. NOBODY ever wants to go grocery shopping with me. Why? Because they don’t share the same enthusiasm about food as I do. The only person I can shop with that has absolutely no problems, is my best friend Tricia.  She is just as ‘coo coo’ about food and home decor as I am.  We were born a week apart, and I’m not sure if it’s a zodiac sign thingy between us and our similar preferences, but I can we really enjoy each other when we are on the road.

So, after going to the farm and waiting for farmers to snip and cut, all the fresh, all natural ingredients that I needed, I went to the supermarket, then my favorite wholesale club, then my favorite whole foods market. I tell ya, I get around! Once I returned home, I was just no longer in the mood to cook. Keep in mind it takes a while to unpack my truck. Needless to say, I was not going to cook this snapper.  I NEVER cook when I’m tired or not in the mood. Why? I’m gonna ruin the dish. If  after eating a meal, my 14 year old son can detect and holla, “mom there is no love” it’s because there was none. I needed to rest and rejuvenate my Temple before I tackled these snappers, and I’m so glad that I did.  I had some yellow cauliflower, broccoli  and bok choy which I knew would be simply divine with the snappers and boy oh boy, was I thrilled when I took the first bite.

Don’t be intimidated by cauliflower or any cruciferous vegetables. I love them in their almost raw state. They are crunchy and absolutely d’luscious. Oh and did I mention the sauce? I can still taste it. Whenever I stew anything I have so much fun with making sauces.  I love sauces that are tangy, sweet and spicy or a combination of all.  My palates does happy dances whenever it’s kissed by the sauce.

I’m an island queen and this dish was not going to be complete with some ground provisions. I threw about 5 green boiled bananas on top of this plate.  Yes I ate this ENTIRE plate. I’m the one who drove all the way cross town, shopping all over the place, so I’m entitled to eat it. Ain’t no shame in my game baby!  I didn’t take any photo of the green bananas because I wanted to eat. Are you thinking to yourself, “omg she ate FIVE green bananas! She so greedy!”  Well, the green bananas were from the farm and they were on the tiny side. They weren’t  the usual size that resembles the male private parts. And they too were great!!!!!!
