Black Rice is the best thing since slice bread. It really isn’t black. It’s more of a deep purple. Anyway, I did a little black rice research myself and was very impressed! Black rice was only reserved for emperors and royalty, as they thought it would bring them longevity. It protects against cancer, diabetes, alzheimer’s disease….and get this…it is anti aging. I don’t know about you, but I want to and WILL age gracefully.
How pray tell, did this rice just fall off the face of the earth? Not only is it anti-inflammatory, but it is also anti-allergic, and an excellent source of fiber and iron. Hey, an anemic like me, needs and wants that. So in addition to taking a tablespoon of Blackstrap Molasses as an alternative to iron pills, I now have black rice. Awesome. Am I excited? Heck yea! Superfoods excite me!
I have never heard of Black rice until I stumbled upon it at a Korean Market, and I darn sure wasn’t going to leave it. It was way too interesting. I was intrigued. One of my food rule is: If it has color, it is going into the shopping cart. Not only did it have color, it was dark; purplish dark. In my book, that it worthy to be taken home. When I see purple foods, I think along the lines of purple beets, blueberries, pomegranate…you get my drift?. Therefore, I was going to buy and eat the black rice, and it will taste great, just like everything else that I prepare.
So I pondered a bit….just kidding…I never ponder…not about foods anyway. Unless I’m confused as heck. It is always carefully thought out, planned (most of the times) and passionately executed. Sorry, but that’s what foodies do…well that’s what I do. I decided that I would bake some chicken but I wanted a different flavor. Maybe something “citrusy” I thought of a mojo marinade…..nah….lemon and garlic would be better. Y’all should’ve seen my chicken all dressed up in her lemon outfit. Prettier than her, you could not find. She was accompanied by broccoli, who was the vegetable of choice and was just as crisp and crunchy, just the way I like it.
