The pain I had to endure on this particular day, was excruciating and unbearable, and could only be remedied and comforted by none other than some good ole Chicken Foot Soup. Please, don’t take this as shocking news, but in Jamaica we eat chicken feet. Yes we do! We add it to soups, stews, and curry.
It’s chicken, so of course it tastes like chicken. Your local supermarkets are now selling every part of the bird. Nothing is being discarded these days. The supermarkets have made attempts to lure consumers by making the name more appealing, and have labeled it as “chicken paws”…..whatever.
On certain days when I am unable to locate this delicacy in the supermarket, I will hunt the butcher down, or whomever is working in the meat department, on that specific day and make my request….for the chicken feet of course. I add this meat to my stews and soups. I feed it to my children as well. Matter of fact, most, if not all Jamaicans enjoy eating chicken feet. We dig deep down into our creative souls to prepare this type of authenticity. I jazz it up with all types of root vegetables. So please, don’t let the name deter you. It is rather d’luscious!
I couldn’t wait for the pain to subside, so I could waltz my pretty, sexy, ass self back into my sanctuary. Now you know that any diva, who anticipates getting well, just so they can go into the kitchen and COOK, is seriously in love with food. Well…that certainly describes me, so go ahead and register me in cook’s anonymous. On second thought, don’t waste your money, because I don’t care to recover.
I knew I had to feel the warmth of this soup navigating its way through my soul and hit the spot where the pain was most severe. I don’t know about you, but soup makes me feel sooo good. For me, whenever I’m feeling under the weather, it serves as an antihistamine, a facial, as most definitely a cure. Once the flavor of the chicken is released, it enhances the broth, which I find satisfying and invigorating.
I don’t buy broth or that other stuff. In my opinion, it defeats the whole purpose, when you can buy the actual meat or the bones and flavor it with herbs and spices and adjust it to your desired taste. Add some dumplings or any of your favorite additions and authenticate the dish to your heart’s content. It really is that simple.
So are you going to try some of this Chicken Foot Soup? Go Ahead, don’t be shy.
